Mother and Sister to Me
Mother and Sister to Me
is a powerful retelling of the Passion of Christ from the point of view
of the women who were present. This new play, written in verse form and
featuring six original songs based on the Psalms and canticles of the
Bible, recreates key moments surrounding the death of Christ: the
anointing of Jesus feet at Bethany, the trial before Pilate, Peters
denial of Christ, Jesus meeting the women of Jerusalem on the road to
Calvary, the crucifixion, and the vigil at the tomb. The story is told
from the perspective of Mary (the sister of Lazarus), the wife of
Pilate, the serving woman at the fire, the widow of Nain and two weeping
women, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Mary Magdalene.
Mother and Sister to Me
is a chancel drama: a play designed to be performed in a church
sanctuary. The production features a cast of fourteen (eight men and
six women). Many of the cast are well-known regulars of the Blackfriars
acting company, as is the Music Director, Andy Bauer.
Mother
and Sister to Me
takes the audience deep into the mystery of Christs
dying and rising through a dramatic encounter with those who were
closest to him. The play is a perfect way to prepare spiritually for
Holy Week and Easter. |
