Objectives and Goals

The Blackfriars Repertory Theatre
is a Dominican apostolate
that proclaims the saving power
of the Gospel
via the medium of theatre.
It exists:

1) To produce theatre of all types that satisfies the Blackfriars' standards in both professional and non-professional venues;

2) To provide a home to Catholic theatre artists, administrators, benefactors, and friends -- playwrights, actors, directors, designers, dramaturgs, technicians, musicians, et al. -- and to others who share in Catholic values and vision;

3) To provide a milieu where Christian artists can grow in their faith and in their art through prayer, friendship, study and discussion sessions, social events, etc.;

4) To engender and encourage the artistic efforts and careers of new theatre artists and new theatrical endeavors;

5) To offer parish missions, retreats, and touring productions using the dynamics of theatre as a means of evangelization;

6) To provide, on an ongoing basis, classes and workshops in acting, playwriting, singing, design, etc.;

7) To provide a regular discussion series focused on faith, art, culture, and the human person;

8) To offer annual theatrical productions and events in concert with the Church's liturgical life, e.g., the Lenten Passion play;

9) To collaborate with like-minded theatre artists and companies;

10) To promote the revitalization of Catholic theatre across the country.
